Editorial: Rising Tide of Need Would Not Be Met Without School Feeding Programs. Poverty is rising in Cowley County as shown by the high percentage of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals. “The big picture is one of a rising tide of need that would not be met if not for school feeding programs. Our schools, public and private, have taken on the challenge of meeting the nutritional needs of the increasing number of children from families that are poor and nearly poor. We should ask ourselves: What would we do without those feeding programs? . . . . let’s be sure we do not forget the poor and the working poor – especially when it comes to adequate and proper nutrition.” http://www.winfieldcourier.com/editorial/e051103.html
