New Food Stamp Public Service Announcements Now Available! Five new public service announcements (PSAs) about the Food Stamp Program are now available on the Food and Nutrition Service website. Audio files and scripts for the PSAs are both available online.

The Briefing Room provides an overview of the Food Stamp Program. ERS research on this topic is highlighted, with links to recommended readings and other briefing rooms covering food and nutrition assistance programs. Food companies have been slow to include the pyramid on their labels. In many cases, they're still using the previous pyramid. But they add that it's tough to justify using the new pyramid on food packages. The old pyramid still has value for its up-front serving suggestions, they say." Full article:

School Physical Education Programs Adopt Skateboarding Curriculum to Spark Students' Interest in Physical Activity As part of a growing trend toward physical education classes that aim to spark children's interest in physical activity in and outside of school, five schools in Colorado have implemented a pre-packaged skateboarding curriculum, the Associated Press reports.

Texas Agriculture Officials Distribute Informational Booklets to Teach Students About Portion Sizes
Students at Texas elementary schools are learning about appropriate portion sizes for fruits, vegetables and other foods as part of the Texas Department of Agriculture's efforts to reduce childhood obesity, the Associated Press reports.
